The last hand-built drop-arm Knole sofa from the Wade Upholstery factory in Long Eaton, just a few months before its final closure. It is entirely upholstered in the now 20+ year-discontinued champagne Rhitam velvet (code DUVCAM 6978), with hand-knotted cords and tassels, wall-to-wall goose down and feather cushions, and a pleated waistcoat skirt on a concealed skirt.
Construction & Materials
Solid beech frame, 8-way hand-tied coil springs, reversible cushions with goose down and feathers, double piping, handmade tassels, original factory label dated June 30, 1997. Completely untouched factory upholstery.
Condition
Museum-quality condition. The velvet is smooth and even, with no flattening, no discoloration, and no restorations. The cushions retain their full volume.
Stylistic Context
The definitive late-20th-century British Knole; an exact version also supplied to George Smith, David Seyfried, and exclusive private projects. One of the very last examples from the traditional Long Eaton workshops.
