Museum of Horrors - No. 40 - A Mysterious Caiman
This is issue no. 40 of a series published by V. Lenepveu between 1899 and 1900.
The dimensions are approximately 64 x 49.5 cm. It is printed on very thin, delicate paper from 1900, which has suffered cracks and damage over time. These are shown in the photograph. To preserve the caricature, the lithograph was professionally glued in the past to strengthen the paper.
Historical Context:
Lawyer Léonce de Sal, a senator and judge of the High Court, was the victim of a prank and was astonished to find small rubber caimans and miniature frying pans (slang for "informer") in his cap.
