The MR10 chair by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, also known as the Weissenhof chair, was first designed in 1927 for the Weissenhofsiedlung exhibition in Stuttgart.
The chair is one of the foundational objects of twentieth-century furniture design and a reference point for Bauhaus design. Mies van der Rohe's cantilever construction—a loop of steel tubes replacing the traditional four-legged structure—was a radical idea at the time. It translated technical logic into pure formal elegance and distinguished this model from older American patents by its large semi-circular front legs, which formed both a formal and functional feature and made the chair pleasantly resilient.
This is the armless MR10 variant in chrome-plated steel tubes with a black leather seat and backrest. The chrome retains a good shine with some light rubbing here and there. The overall structure is excellent, and the leather displays a patina consistent with its age (see photos). Key features:
• Model MR10, without armrests, as shown in the photos.
• Design: A cantilever chair made of chrome-plated steel tubes with a saddle leather seat and backrest.
• Characteristic arch: The large semicircular arch at the front provides natural suspension, which was a revolutionary innovation at the time.
• Dimensions: (HxWxD): H82 x W49 x D70 cm, seat height 45 cm, seat depth 40 cm
• Produced by: Thonet.
• These chairs are in good vintage condition with minimal wear from normal use. They offer a great seat!
The chairs are sold as a set of two, but there are a total of 7 MR10 chairs available. Please feel free to contact me if you wish to purchase more than 2 pieces or if you have any questions about this set.
The price is for the set of 2.
