Product description
An exceptional and imposing Nepalese bronze statue depicting Tara, one of the most important female bodhisattvas within Himalayan Buddhism.
Standing 78 cm tall, the figure has an elegant, slender posture with a gentle contrapposto. The graceful position of the arms, elaborate crown and finely modelled jewellery give the sculpture a lively yet refined presence.
Tara stands upon a classical lotus pedestal and was traditionally hollow-cast in bronze. The warm original fire-gilded surface and naturally developed patina lend the statue an authentic, time-worn character.
The delicately rendered face, body and ornamentation correspond closely with the celebrated Newar sculptural tradition of Nepal’s Kathmandu Valley. Dating from the 18th to early 19th century, the statue was likely created as an important temple or devotional sculpture.
