Product description
Cuno Fischer for Rosenthal Studio Line – Monumental Tribal-Inspired Porcelain Vase, c. 1967 An exceptional and impressively scaled bisque porcelain vase designed by the visionary German artist Cuno Fischer (1914–2003) for Rosenthal’s celebrated Studio Line. Standing at a striking 48 cm in height, this cylindrical vessel is adorned with a bold and rhythmic low-relief pattern of abstract tribal motifs, characteristic of Fischer’s unique visual language — a synthesis of modernist clarity and ethnographic inspiration. Executed in matte white porcelain, the tactile surface features repeating geometric glyphs reminiscent of stylised eyes and solar emblems, each motif oscillating between minimalist ornament and ceremonial power. This rare model is among Fischer’s most architectural contributions to the Studio Line series and demonstrates the elegant tension between function and sculpture that defines Rosenthal’s 1960s output. The base bears the full Rosenthal Studio Line mark, Fischer’s facsimile signature, and the original gold label. An iconic artefact of West German design history — equally at home in a modernist interior or as a statement collector’s piece. 🕰 Historical Note Cuno Fischer, active in the vibrant post-war art scenes of Paris, Marseille, and later Munich, collaborated with Rosenthal between 1962 and 1972. His Studio Line designs, including a renowned series of tribal and scarification-inspired reliefs, are today regarded as rare milestones of German design, blurring the boundaries between applied art and sculpture. Rosenthal’s Studio Line, launched in the 1960s under the direction of Philip Rosenthal, was a bold experiment in design innovation, bringing artists and industrial production into dialogue. Collaborators included Victor Vasarely, Tapio Wirkkala, and Raymond Loewy — with Fischer’s contributions offering a particularly tactile and graphic sensibility. 📏 Dimensions: Height: 48 cm Diameter: approx. 16.5 cm General Information Explore my profile for more rare vases, retro treasures, and mid-century design objects.
