Danish modular shelving system veneered in rosewood, designed by Poul Cadovius in the 1970s. The system combines thoughtful engineering with the elegance of fine wood, creating a composition emblematic of Scandinavian design from that era.
The presented configuration rests on vertical wall-mounted tracks that form the structural backbone of the entire system. Closed cabinets and open shelves hang at varying heights along these supports. The lower section comprises spacious cabinets and drawers, while the upper portion pairs two enclosed units with display shelves. Every element can be repositioned freely, allowing the layout to adapt to changing needs. The modular construction also permits expansion with additional segments.
Poul Cadovius stands among the most influential figures in post-war Scandinavian design. His shelving systems, developed from the 1950s onward, transformed the approach to domestic storage. Cadovius pioneered wall-mounted furniture with variable configurations that users could adjust independently. This concept addressed the challenges of modern living — growing possessions and limited floor space. Rosewood veneer, a hallmark of Danish furniture production during those decades, lends the design a refined character accentuated by the distinctive grain pattern.
Spanning over three metres in width, this shelving unit provides generous space for storage and display. Closed cabinets accommodate documents, electronics and everyday items best kept out of sight. Open shelves suit books, albums, ceramics and collectibles. The system performs equally well in a living room as the main storage wall, in a study for a library and working materials, or in a professional office setting.
Very good condition. Minor scratches and small chips consistent with use are visible. Small losses have been filled.
