This elegant floating wall lamp designed by Uno & Östen Kristiansson for Luxus of Sweden during the 1960s. A beautiful example of Scandinavian Modernism, the design combines a gracefully curved teak wall arm with a large, drop-shaped opaline glass shade that appears to float effortlessly in space. The gracefully curved teak arm can be moved and adjusted, allowing the opaline shade to float in different positions. This combination of flexibility and sculptural beauty is characteristic of the best Scandinavian lighting designs of the period.
The organic form of the teak support creates a striking sense of lightness, while the opaline glass diffuses light evenly, producing a warm and atmospheric glow. The design perfectly reflects the Kristiansson brothers’ ability to combine functionality with sculptural elegance.
This is the larger version of the model, making it particularly desirable for collectors of Scandinavian lighting. The generously proportioned glass shade enhances the floating effect and provides beautiful ambient illumination.
The lamp remains in good vintage condition. There is a small imperfection within the glass near the top where it meets the wooden cap, as well as some light rubbing to the opaline finish on a portion of the underside, caused during the original manufacturing process. Both details are minor, do not distract from the overall appearance and are best regarded as characteristics of the handcrafted production.
A rare and highly decorative piece of Swedish design that beautifully combines teak, glass and organic form into a timeless mid-century lighting sculpture.
