Model 4541 ice glass wall lamp by J.T. Kalmar for Kalmar Franken, Austria, circa 1960s
Studio Haag presents the elegant model 4541 wall lamp by J.T. Kalmar for Kalmar Franken, Austria, produced in the 1960s. Each lamp consists of two sections, each with three solid cast-glass pendalogues (prisms) in a cubist shape. These sculptural shards are mounted on a metal frame and remain in beautiful condition. The lamps retain their original Kalmar labels — a rare detail that highlights their authenticity.
The design was inspired by Murano’s renowned ice glass technique, resulting in a textured surface that refracts light in a warm, crystalline way. The interplay of metal and heavy cast glass gives the piece a distinctive presence, perfectly balancing luxury and restraint.
In the 1960s and ’70s, Austrian lighting manufacturer Kalmar increasingly explored decorative glass production, marking a new and innovative era for the company. This shift brought Kalmar international acclaim. The model 4541 belongs to that celebrated “ice glass” period, created in collaboration with sculptor Karl Gruber — a partnership that defined Kalmar’s modernist identity and elevated its reputation in mid-century design
