Striking and highly architectural ‘Mission’ sofa, designed by Jack Crebolder and produced by Harvink in the Netherlands in the 1980s.
Crebolder did not design this sofa as a conventional, wall-mounted seating unit, but rather as a freestanding object in an open interior. This intention is clearly reflected in the design: a low, horizontal platform of black lacquered wood extends on both sides, creating integrated surfaces and allowing the piece to be experienced from all angles.
The seat consists of loose, black leather cushions, supported at the front by slender, chrome-plated metal legs, giving the sofa a floating appearance. The contrast between the massive volume of the base and the lightness of the metal structure reinforces the sculptural presence.
The result is a piece of furniture situated at the intersection of furniture and architecture – equally functional as a seating unit and as a spatial element in a room.
In good vintage condition with visible patina on the leather, including creases and signs of wear consistent with its age. The wooden platform shows slight wear. Structurally solid and ready for use.
