Airy, with constructive details that reference Japanese tradition, the modular Torii seating furniture plays with rounded shapes, slender profiles, and the apparent formal simplicity of a meticulously detailed design.
The metal structure of the legs of the seating and tables is Nendo's nod to the "torii," the gateway to Shinto shrines in Japan. Through an interlocking pattern, the horizontal elements rest on the vertical supports, creating a refined visual lightness that perfectly complements the upholstered volume, characterized by craftsmanship.
The Torii family includes sofas—with high or low backrests and a linear shape, rounded at the armrests—angled sofas with a combination of two different depths, armchairs, lounge and dining chairs, ottomans, coffee tables, and a sleek, oval console table, ideal for any space in the living room. The diverse product range allows for flexible layouts, where individual elements can also be combined to create a strong visual unity. The metal frame of the Torii series evokes the image of the "Senbon Torii, the wooden colonnade made up of a thousand crimson torii gates," as Nendo reminds us.
The slender backrest features vertical stitching and piping along the edge of the cushion, highlighting the high-quality finish. The eco-leather and eco-nubuck piping has a slightly contrasting color, but matches the fabric when combined with textile upholstery. The leather versions retain the same shade when combined with leather upholstery. All upholstered elements of the system can be personalized by choosing the upholstery: 100% fabric or leather, or fabric with a leather base.
The chairs can be complemented with a leather magazine holder, crafted using refined techniques from luggage construction and enhanced with the same metal details as the base. The end of the horizontal metal element of the legs is designed to almost enclose the backrest and seat, reminiscent of the Kigumi technique, a Japanese technique.
