This is the Ayno XL Wall light, a contemporary design by Stefan Diez for the German manufacturer Midgard. The piece combines minimalist aesthetics with innovative functionality, resulting in a striking arc lamp that is both practical and sculptural. The Ayno series, winner of the German Sustainability Award, is known for its radical yet delicate approach to lighting.
The construction of the lamp is unique: a slender frame of fiberglass and steel is stretched into the desired arc by means of the bright red textile cable. This cable runs through two adjustable rings, allowing the height and curvature of the arc to be easily adjusted without traditional hinges or springs. The conical shade, made from recycled polycarbonate, is rotatable and provides focused, glare-free light. The lamp is finished in a neutral grey color that creates a strong visual contrast with the red cable.
