This rare sideboard from the Modulus series was designed by William Watting in the 1950s and manufactured by the Dutch company Fristho. The simple frame is veneered with beautifully grained teak. The upper and lower edges are finished with solid brass strips that harmonize perfectly with the warm, reddish wood and emphasize the successful combination of materials. Finely crafted wooden handles are recessed into the drawers. The exceptionally shaped solid brass legs are particularly noteworthy. This small detail adds a special touch to the minimalist design. The Fristho metal emblem is located inside the sideboard. About the designer and manufacturer: William Watting (1900–1973) was an American architect and furniture designer who lived in Denmark after World War II. In the 1950s, he designed for Fristho and became known for his innovative use of plywood in furniture construction. His designs are now highly sought-after collector's items and are represented in museums and private collections worldwide. Fristho was founded in 1921 by Frans and Theo van der Horst and was one of the leading Dutch furniture manufacturers in the 1950s and 1960s. In addition to William Watting, designers such as Kho Liang Ie and Wim Rietveld also worked for the company.
