A vintage Danish Modern teak Roundette dining set designed by Hans Olsen for Frem Røjle, produced in Denmark during the 1950s. This sought-after mid-century modern dining set consists of an extendable round teak dining table and four matching chairs with black upholstery, all designed to nest neatly beneath the tabletop when not in use. The table extends from a compact 106 cm round format to 157 cm, combining one of Hans Olsen’s most recognisable space-saving concepts with refined Danish craftsmanship.

The table has a clean circular profile with a finely grained teak top and softly rounded apron, supported by slender tapered legs. A central extension transforms the compact round table into an oval dining surface while retaining the restrained proportions of the original design. The four chairs echo the table through tapered legs and gently curved backrests, finished with distinctive dark inlaid details at the ends. Black upholstered seats and back inserts create a quiet contrast with the warm teak. When pushed in, the curved chair backs align closely with the table apron, bringing the separate pieces together as one continuous architectural form.
Hans Olsen developed the Roundette concept for Frem Røjle in the early 1950s, with the design generally dated to 1952. It became one of his best-known experiments in compact living, integrating table and seating into a unified composition. Several versions were subsequently produced, including the later four-legged chair variation with upholstered back inserts and an extendable table represented by this set.
Condition
Good vintage condition with signs of age and use consistent with its period. The teak shows light scratches, small marks and gentle surface wear, particularly to the chair backrests and frames, while retaining a warm and attractive patina. The table top presents well with only light age-related wear. The black upholstery is in good overall condition, with minor traces of use and a small edge nick visible to the upholstered backrest. The table extension functions as intended and the chairs remain stable and structurally sound.
