Product description
The FD 503 coffee table was designed by Tove and Edvard Kindt-Larsen for the Danish company France & Søn in the 1960s. It is one of the most characteristic designs of Danish modernism of the period. The simple, elongated form is complemented by a gently raised tabletop with softly rounded edges and slender, tapering legs. The design is complemented by distinctive, profiled crossbars running between the legs, giving the table a light feel while simultaneously emphasizing its refined construction.
The table is crafted from solid teak, whose natural grain is clearly visible on the tabletop and structural elements. The piece has been professionally and carefully restored by removing old coatings, staining and finishing with varnish. The restoration was carried out by a talented and experienced carpenter with over 20 years of experience. Thanks to these treatments, the table looks wonderful and will serve its new owner for many years without fear of damage or wear and tear from everyday use.
The FD 503 perfectly demonstrates the Kindt-Larsens' approach to furniture design – functional construction is combined with refined carpentry details, without unnecessary decorative elements. The slim silhouette and open space between the tabletop and base give the table a visually light feel and a good look from a distance. The design represents classic Danish mid-century modern, in which the quality of the materials, proportion, and precision of workmanship play a special role.
Tove Kindt-Larsen was one of the most important Danish designers of the 20th century. Together with her husband Edvard Kindt-Larsen, she had been creating furniture since the 1930s, and their designs combined traditional Danish craftsmanship with a modernist approach to form. The FD 503 is one of their designs created for France & Søn.
France & Søn / France & Daverkosen was one of the most important Danish furniture companies during the period of post-war modernism. The company collaborated with many of Denmark's leading designers, and its products were distinguished, among other things, by the skillful use of teak in industrial production.
