Meredew Ltd, a little-known British furniture maker, was a medium-sized manufacturer in the 1960s and 1970s. They were based in Letchworth Garden City in Hertfordshire. Starting in London, Frederick Hard, the owner, brought around 50 families to the newly formed town of Letchworth in 1914. By 1938, they employed 177 people, and Frederick's son John was in charge of the engineering, so controlling costs was a priority at the time.
