Up for sale is a magnificent mid-century modern round rattan lounge chair, highly celebrated by design dealers and collectors as the "Bird’s Nest" chair. Due to its specific silhouette and high-quality framing, this piece is attributed to the famous Japanese modernist pioneer Isamu Kenmochi (Model C-3150, designed circa 1960 for Yamakawa Rattan).
Design & Craftsmanship:
This exceptional chair features a striking, continuous spherical cocoon shape that rolls seamlessly down to the floor, mimicking an organic nest. The undercarriage reveals the classic authentic construction hallmarks: a heavy-duty, heat-bent natural bamboo cross-brace (+) system providing superb stability. At the exact center of the seat, it features a tightly executed, geometric checkerboard anchor weave—a classic indicator of premium mid-century artisanal production.
Condition:
The chair is in excellent vintage condition with a gorgeous, warm honey-toned patina. The fine wicker weave remains remarkably tight, sturdy, and highly intact across the entire frame, with no major breaks or structural unraveling. It retains its four original protective plastic floor glides on the base.
A magnificent investment piece that effortlessly complements Japandi, mid-century modern, bohemian, or minimalist organic interiors.
