Description – Faianta Sighişoara Tableware (Romania, ca. 1970)
Rare mid-century modern tableware from the Faianta Sighişoara ceramics workshop, Transylvania (Romania), circa 1970.
The set consists of six cup and saucer combinations and a larger pot with a lid. The designs are characterized by their organic, sculptural shapes and the warm, mustard-brown matte glaze—typical stylistic features of Eastern European design from the 1960s and 1970s.
Made of faianţă (tin-glazed earthenware) with a satin finish. Each piece is hand-finished and marked FAIANTA SIGHISOARA on the underside.
This ceramic combines the artisanal tradition of Sighişoara with the modernist design language popular in Scandinavia and the Netherlands during the same period.
