Decorative ceramic vase in the form of a crane standing on a sculptural tree trunk base, most likely Japan, 1950s to early 1960s. The crane is a traditional symbol of longevity and good fortune in Japanese culture.
The white glazed bird contrasts beautifully with the richly textured base featuring pine and rock motifs in blue and brown flowing glazes. The combination of elegant sculptural lines and expressive glaze work is characteristic of Mid Century Japanese export ceramics.
