Mid-Century Glass Duo by Jan Beránek for Škrdlovice – Sculptural Mastery in Lilac and Pink (H 20 cm + 16.5 cm)
This rare pairing of organically shaped vases, hand-sculpted in thick-walled lilac and pink crystal, embodies the signature artistry of Czech master glassmaker Jan Beránek for the Škrdlovice Glassworks. Blown in the 1950s–60s at the height of the studio glass movement, these pieces are more than vessels—they are luminous, tactile sculptures frozen in motion.
Beránek’s hallmark is unmistakable: molten forms pulled and folded into asymmetrical whorls and indentations, each vase bearing the fluid spontaneity of fire-formed material. The pieces differ in tone—a deep violet-lilac and a soft vintage pink—yet mirror each other in weight, complexity, and inner glow.

About the Designer
Born into a family of renowned glassmakers, Jan Beránek apprenticed with his father Emanuel before training at the esteemed glass schools of Nový Bor. From 1957 to 1987, he headed the studio at Škrdlovice, shaping the glassworks’ identity with his instinctive, expressive designs. His pieces fuse Bohemian tradition with the postwar avant-garde—a synthesis of material knowledge and sculptural freedom.

Documented in “Beránek & Škrdlovice – Legends of Czech Glass” (Mark Hill Publishing, 2014), Beránek’s vases are increasingly sought after by collectors of 20th-century studio glass.
