Product description
A chair designed by Svend Åge Eriksen and manufactured by Glostrup Møbelfabrik in the 1960s represents the principles of Danish mid-century modern design, where clarity of form and functional construction were key. This model belongs to a group of Eriksen’s chairs and lounge chairs characterized by a light, open structure. The shaped armrests and slightly reclined backrest provide a comfortable and natural seating position. The frame, as seen in the photo, is made of solid teak wood—a material widely used in Danish furniture of the period due to its durability and stability. The chair is in very good original condition. The wooden components show signs of age and use, including minor scratches. The seat and backrest are upholstered in original beige wool. The design reflects Scandinavian modernist aesthetics—restrained but carefully refined in details such as joinery and proportions. Tapered legs and gently curved lines give the chair a light visual presence, allowing it to fit easily into different interiors without dominating the space. At the same time, its solid construction and ergonomic backrest make it suitable for everyday use, whether at a table or as a standalone piece. Svend Åge Eriksen was active in the 1950s and 1960s and is best known for seating design. His work focused on functional solutions and simple forms, often using solid wood and clearly defined structures. While sometimes stylistically close to other Danish modern designers, his work stands out through its attention to proportion and detail. Glostrup Møbelfabrik was a Danish furniture maker active in the mid-20th century, producing modernist furniture in collaboration with various designers. The company focused on craftsmanship and durable materials, particularly teak, resulting in well-made pieces that have stood the test of time.
