The robot-shaped Ginza cabinet is made of wood and plastic laminate and has the playful anti-design style typical of Memphis Milano.
In 1981, Umeda designed his most famous object for Memphis, the Tawaraya boxing ring, in which the group's founders were photographed by Studio Azzurro to create one of Memphis ' most iconic images. A mix of East and West, Tawaraya, a sort of metaphor for a conversation piece, is a boxing ring with the tatami mats typical of Japanese traditional interiors. Umeda continued to work at the Memphis Group for the next two years, producing the Ginza robot case and two ceramic objects, the Orinoco vase and the Parana bowl.
