Product description
Medusa Table Lamp by Olaf Von Bohr for Valenti An exceptional example of sculptural Italian lighting from the 1960s, the Medusa table lamp designed by Olaf Von Bohr for Valenti embodies the bold experimentation and artistic freedom that defined the era. Its expressive form recalls the flowing movement of its mythological namesake, creating a captivating interplay between light, form, and shadow. True to its name, the Medusa lamp features a dynamic structure reminiscent of flowing, tentacle-like forms, creating a sense of movement and organic elegance. The design transforms light into an atmospheric element, casting soft reflections and shadows that enhance its sculptural character. The design is both architectural and organic: elegant metal lines extend outward in a dynamic composition, giving the lamp a sense of motion and visual rhythm even when unlit. Once illuminated, the Medusa transforms into a luminous sculpture, casting atmospheric light while emphasizing the dramatic silhouette of the structure. Olaf Von Bohr, a German-born designer active in Italy, was known for his refined modernist sensibility and his ability to merge functionality with sculptural expression. In collaboration with the Italian manufacturer Valenti, he produced lighting that perfectly reflects the innovative design culture of the period. Today, the Medusa table lamp is regarded as a distinctive and collectible piece of vintage Italian design. Rarely encountered and highly decorative, it functions not only as a source of light but also as a striking statement object. An additional and highly attractive feature is that 2 Medusa lamps are currently available – See FIN 1725. This one is an early version from the 60’s, the other one dates from the 70s. As these lamps are rarely found on the market, the opportunity to acquire a matching pair represents a significant advantage.
