This classic set of four Visitor Chairs by Matteo Grassi combines the constructive clarity of classic Bauhaus modernism with the high-quality leather craftsmanship for which the Italian manufacturer became known. The characteristic combination of chrome-plated tubular steel and strong black saddle leather gives the chairs an elegant, architectural and timeless appearance. The frame consists of continuously bent, chrome-plated tubular steel. Its reduced lines create an exciting contrast to the black saddle leather. The seat and backrest require no conventional upholstery: The strong leather is stretched between the structural elements, creating a slightly springy seat surface. The leather-covered armrests consistently continue the material concept. The visible construction is particularly appealing – nothing is hidden; rather, the tubular steel, leather, seams, and fastenings themselves become design elements. The set of four chairs offered here is in very good vintage condition. The black saddle leather is very well preserved and shows only a minimal, authentic patina and isolated age-appropriate signs of wear. This light patination in particular emphasizes the original character of the leather, without impairing the well-maintained overall impression. The chrome-plated tubular steel frames also present very nicely and have an attractive, even sheen. The leather armrest covers and visible seams also appear very well-maintained overall. The design clearly follows the tradition of the cantilever chairs developed by Mart Stam and Marcel Breuer in the 1920s. Matteo Grassi later took up this idea and reinterpreted it with a particularly luxurious materiality. Matteo Grassi is one of the Italian manufacturers whose furniture is particularly characterized by the processing of high-quality leather. The company's roots lie in traditional leather and saddlery processing. This artisanal origin is also clearly palpable in the Visitor Chairs: strong leather, precise seams, and a deliberately reduced construction combine to create a piece of furniture that thrives on the quality and natural aging of its materials.
