A special and elegant example of Dutch mid-century design: the Borculo cabinet, designed by Martin Visser for ’t Spectrum.
The design is characterized by the strong graphic combination of dark wenge wood and white elements. The slender side panels form, as it were, the frame of the cabinet, while the shallow depth of only 26.5 cm gives the piece a strikingly light and refined appearance.
The upper section features glass sliding doors with white shelves behind them. This makes the Borculo particularly suitable for displaying books, ceramics, glassware, or other special objects, without the overall appearance being cluttered. The lower cabinet has white wooden sliding doors and offers practical, enclosed storage space.
Typical of Martin Visser's work is the clear construction: functional, minimalist, and perfectly balanced, without superfluous details. It is precisely the combination of open and closed storage space that makes the Borculo both a Bookcases, a display cabinet, and a compact sideboard.
Due to its modest width and shallow depth, this is a very versatile piece of furniture that also comes into its own in a hallway, dining room, or smaller living space. A characteristic piece of Dutch Design that can be easily combined with both vintage and contemporary interiors.
