Created towards the end of the 18th century, the two figures stand on a slightly raised, irregularly shaped base. Their clothing and accessories are finely modeled and painted in delicate colors.
The group bears the Ludwigsburg manufactory mark on the underside. A very similar version is illustrated in Hans Dieter Flach's "Ludwigsburg Porcelain" on page 516; there, the man's flute rests against his leg, whereas in this example, it was originally held in his hand.
The group of figures has been professionally restored. There is a fire crack on the edge of the base, as well as restorations to the hurdy-gurdy, the peasant's walking stick, and his hat; the man's flute is missing. Overall, the piece is in good, decorative condition and displays the typical quality and charm of Ludwigsburg porcelain.
