In exceptionally good vintage condition, this original Louis Poulsen PH 6½-6 Charlottenborg, designed by Poul Henningsen, is a truly exceptional piece. This is the largest version of the PH pendant lamps, measuring 65cm in diameter and 50cm in height. It features a four-shade system of brushed matte white metal and a blue shade.
This lamp is approximately 45 years old and in truly perfect vintage condition with only a few superficial scratches and dents. The lamp has an original E40 socket and has been made LED-ready with an E40 to E27 adapter. It comes with this adapter and a beautiful 18W LED bulb (equivalent to 150W) with 2452 lumens (a very warm white light) and is dimmable. This Danish design lamp is a beautiful addition to high ceilings and larger spaces.
This PH 6½-6 Charlottenborg is still produced by Louis Poulsen and retails for €4,570.

Poul Henningsen designed this four-shade system in 1931 to illuminate large spaces as an alternative to the then-common chandeliers. This greater horizontal light distribution allowed for better illumination of walls and shelves than with the standard three-shade lamps. The lamp was discontinued by Louis Poulsen around 1940, but was redesigned in 1979 by two Danish architects, Sophus Frandsen and Ebbe Christensen, for the Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen, albeit in a larger size: PH 6½/6. To address the perennial problem of glare, the two architects decided to add a small blue shade to the design. They also gave the design a new surface, with a matt, white-painted shade, for a more even, pleasant light—ideal for museums and exhibition spaces, or as general lighting for rooms with high ceilings. In 1984, a smaller version, the 5/4½, was designed for the Aarhus Concert Hall.
