Step back into the 1980s with this beautiful Dutch limited edition floor lamp.
This minimalist Dutch Design 'Lotus' floor lamp was designed by Dutch designer Menno Dieperink for Profilight in 1982.
Black and gray lacquered steel, two round opaque glass discs supported by a V-shaped bracket, and two red cables in the middle. The light from the lamps is directed towards the ceiling, resulting in a soft, diffused light.
The basic geometric shape and industrial character of this lamp are influenced by Dutch postmodernism and the Rietveld tradition, the German Bauhaus, and the Italian Memphis style.
This lamp is a true statement piece of Dutch design. The shape of the lamp is reminiscent of a stylized lotus flower, hence the name 'LOTUS'.
This particular floor lamp was originally used by an architect in a Memphis-style building built in Hoofdplaat, the Netherlands, in 1988. I still have the original architectural documents for this Profilight lamp from 1982, including the original price list from that time. See photos.
