This boat-shaped gravy boat with a pouring spout is a tabletop piece of understated and confident elegance. The luminous and soft ivory cream fine earthenware from Longwy is enhanced by its spiraling fluted body and scalloped edge, which give the piece its character. The black rim along the edge of the gravy boat and its underplate finishes the set with tasteful discretion. The decoration is hand-painted, as attested by the "Décors à la main" (Hand-decorated) inscription on the reverse. On the body, a naturalistic floral bouquet unfurls freely: yellow flowers, green foliage, red and brown fruits on winding stems. The style is characteristic of French floral decorations from the 1930s-1950s, warm and vibrant, far removed from the coldness of industrial designs. On the reverse, a stylized brown and beige heraldic cartouche completes the ensemble. The Longwy manufactory, founded in 1798 in Meurthe-et-Moselle, is one of the great French earthenware factories of Eastern France. Known for its Art Deco cloisonné enamels, it also produces very high-quality fine earthenware, of which this gravy boat is a testament. The "Longwy France" stamp on the reverse dates the piece to the 1930s-1950s. The underplate measures 28 cm in length. The gravy boat measures 13 cm in interior width. The set is complete and integral. Very good condition. A few light signs of use on the underplate, intact decoration, impeccable black rim.
