This boat-shaped gravy boat with two opposing spouts is a table item of understated elegance. Longwy's fine ivory cream earthenware, bright and soft, is enhanced by the deeply ribbed spiral body and the four-lobed scalloped rim that give the piece its character. The chocolate-brown line along the edge of the gravy boat and the underplate, with its characteristic dark drips on the upper rim, is the signature of the "Marseille" pattern. The decoration is hand-painted, as attested by the inscription "Décors à la main" (Hand-painted decorations) on the reverse. On the body, a bouquet of large stylized tulips with dark chocolate-brown petals spreads over olive-green foliage. Small berries complete the composition. On the back, a golden-brown ivy branch runs across the body. The style is characteristic of French floral decorations from the 1930s-1950s, understated and warm. The Longwy manufactory, founded in 1798 in Meurthe-et-Moselle, is one of the great French earthenware factories in Eastern France. It named its patterns for its catalogs, and the "Marseille" pattern is among the most characteristic of its interwar period production. The oval stamp "Marseille / Longwy / France / Décors à la main" (Hand-painted decorations) on the reverse dates the piece to the 1930s-1950s. The underplate measures 28 cm in length. The gravy boat measures 12 cm in internal width. The set is complete and integral. Very good condition. Some normal traces of limescale on the inner bottom. Decoration intact, chocolate line impeccable.
