A very special and rare Italian chandelier by Longobard, presumably manufactured in the 1960s.
A spectacular example of Italian sculptural lighting from this period. The lamp is constructed entirely from a hand-formed metal frame with a gold/bronze-colored finish and beautiful natural patina. Dozens of individual pieces of thick colored glass are incorporated into this.
The design is distinctly organic and floral. Large flowers, leaves, round glass elements, and gracefully curled metal tendrils combine to form a single three-dimensional light sculpture. The underside is also fully finished, making the lamp particularly beautiful from every angle.
The heavy decorative glass varies from milky white and yellow to green and amber tones and features beautiful irregular color variations. The individual glass elements are hand-formed and set within the metal frame.
Longobard was an Italian manufacturer known for its characteristic lighting of hand-worked metal and heavy decorative glass. The design language and production technique show strong similarities to the work of Poliarte and Albano Poli, also known for their sculptural Italian glass lighting from this period.
A virtually identical example is even attributed to Albano Poli / Poliarte on the international design market, which clearly demonstrates how closely the designs and techniques of these Italian ateliers were related.
