Rotkäppchen is the first work in the Grimm series, a series of paintings inspired by the dark undercurrent of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales.
At first glance, the work depicts a summer forest bathed in green light. However, a closer look reveals an oppressive atmosphere. The canopy is exceptionally dense, allowing only filtered light to pass through. The trees appear to form a narrow passage, as if the forest itself is reacting to the viewer's presence. What looks familiar thus takes on a subtly ominous character.
