Chromolithography on tin experienced its golden age between 1880 and 1920. Major European manufacturers, with Belgian and French ones leading the way, competed in refinement to adorn their confectionery and biscuit tins with scenes worthy of the most beautiful illustrated albums. This rectangular tin is a characteristic example of this. Its lid is decorated with an 18th-century inspired gallant scene, featuring a couple in court costumes in a flowery garden, rendered with the chromatic richness typical of the best productions of the era. The green, orange, and golden tones of the scene contrast with the cobalt blue and gold scale frieze running along all four sides. The tin is complete; the lid opens and closes correctly. The decoration shows wear and chipping on the lid, testaments to its age and authenticity, visible in the photos. Length: approximately 26 cm. Width: approximately 8.5 cm. Height: approximately 4 cm. France or Belgium, 1900-1920s.
