This work is typical of Axel Olson's style, with a dreamlike world, elongated figures, a floating gaze, and marine elements such as a boat and birds.
This lithograph blends geometric composition and surrealist poetry, characteristic of the Halmstad Group, of which Olson was a member, using light colors and refined forms to suggest dreams and contemplation.
Axel Olson (1899–1986) was a Swedish painter, illustrator, and printmaker, born in Halmstad.
Influenced by Cubism and then Surrealism, he traveled throughout Europe, notably studying in Berlin under Alexander Archipenko. Olson is one of the founders of the Halmstad Group, a collective that left its mark on the Swedish avant-garde, and with whom he shared a fascination for interior landscapes and maritime motifs. He has exhibited in numerous museums, and his works, punctuated by boats, coastlines, and enigmatic scenes, reflect both his Nordic roots and his modern influences.
