Lips Vago, 'Congresso' shelving units, black lacquered steel, Italy, 1960s.
Constructed from steel sheets, the 'Congresso' shelf is a sturdy yet unassuming bookcase that can be used on either side, making it a versatile addition to any space. The metal sheets at the end of the shelf are placed upwards, doubling as bookends. The shelf is created by Lips Vago, a merger between Italian blacksmith company Vago and Dutch locker company Lips, which designed models for archives and libraries, including this one. Its popularity was such that it was awarded the Smau Industrial Design Award in 1968.
The items are in good, used condition. On some parts there are some scratches, rust and stains visible due to use and age of these shelving units.
