This boat-shaped gravy boat with two pouring spouts is a table piece of exquisite elegance. The Limoges porcelain, in a luminous and translucent white, captures the light with that quality characteristic of great French manufacturers. The scalloped edge, the gilded border, and the gilded interior of the gravy boat immediately speak to the care given to every detail. The decoration is in the Chinoiserie style, which made the fortune of European manufacturers since the 18th century. On the body, a peacock with fanned feathers is perched on a branch, surrounded by polychrome flowers—yellow, red, and pink—and green foliage. Floral bouquets are scattered around the perimeter of the gravy boat and on the underplate. The decoration, applied by transfer and hand-embellished, possesses that finesse and precision that distinguish Limoges production from the interwar period. The piece comes from the Charles Field Haviland factory, founded in Limoges in 1882 by Charles Haviland's nephew. After its acquisition by Gérard, Dufraisseix and Abbot, the GDA mark is affixed on the reverse alongside the name Charles Field Haviland, a mark used from 1900 to 1941. The green lozenge with the initials CF and the central monogram dates the piece to the 1920s-1940s. The underplate measures 24 cm in length. The gravy boat, with two opposing spouts, measures 10 cm in interior width. The set is complete and integral. Very good condition. Slight wear to the gold rim at the edges, normal for its age. Decoration intact, porcelain free of chips or cracks.
