Product description
A gentleman in a carmine red coat plays the mandolin. In front of him, a lady in a yellow crinoline dress is seated on a rock in an Italianate garden. She holds a musical score, her head lifted towards him, a smile on her lips. Behind them, a colonnaded temple stands out against the light of an imaginary park. The scene is signed "A. Renoir," an obvious reference to the 18th-century Rococo taste, that of Watteau and Fragonard, where music, love, and gardens mingled in a perpetual celebration. This decorative plate was made in the 1950s-1960s by the Pégut workshop, a Limousin decorator who purchased blank Limoges porcelain pieces to adorn them with gallant scenes and market them as decorative objects. The shield-shaped stamp on the reverse attests to this: "Genuine Limoges Porcelain, Decorated at Pégut." A meticulously crafted production, intended for bourgeois interiors that appreciated fine tableware and references to French art. The porcelain itself is of a luminous whiteness. The rim is adorned with a continuous golden frieze of floral arabesques, of remarkable delicacy, highlighted by a gold line on the edge. The gold is intact, shiny, without wear. With its 27 cm diameter, the plate makes a statement in an open display cabinet, hung on the wall, or placed on an easel. It brings to an interior that classic and slightly theatrical French touch that constitutes the charm of well-chosen antique objects. Impeccable condition, without chips or restoration. Additional details: - Brand: Pégut Limoges - Style: Classique français - Colour: Rouge carmin - Period: 1950s-1960s
