Biography of Léon Wuidar
Birth and training
Léon Wuidar was born on August 18, 1938 in Liège, Belgium. Fascinated by the arts from an early age, he studied at the Académie royale des beaux-arts de Liège, where he obtained the Regent diploma in plastic arts in 1959, followed by a diploma from the Académie in 1963.
Teaching career
His academic career began shortly after his studies. From 1959 to 1980, he taught drawing in primary schools. He then became professor of graphic arts at the Académie des Beaux-Arts de Liège, a position he held until 1998. His role as educator influenced many artists and students, sharing his passion and knowledge of art.
Artistic practice
As a painter and draughtsman, Léon Wuidar is renowned for his versatility and ability to integrate art with architecture. He has collaborated with many eminent architects, including Bruno Albert, Roger Bastin, André Jacqmain, Philippe Samyn, Claude Strebelle and Charles Vandenhove. These collaborations have resulted in numerous works of public art, which can be seen in prestigious locations such as the Musée d'art contemporain en plein air du Sart Tilman in Liège, the Centre hospitalier universitaire de Liège, and the MET building in Namur.
