Product description
Manufacturer: Leerdam Glass Factory Design: A.D. Copier Dimensions: (height) 12 x (diameter) 8.5 cm Origin: Holland, Leerdam Material: Pressed glass Color: Orange Period: 1938 Marked: 'W' pressed into the glass Condition: Fine condition - used with minimal signs of wear and age - small air bubble in the glass and light limescale on the inside of the lower section - overall condition fine. There is some debate in the literature regarding the exact dating (ranging from 1926, 1928 to 1938), but recent research by the National Glass Museum points to 1938 on the occasion of Queen Wilhelmina's 40th anniversary of her reign. Details: The cup is made of clear orange pressed glass and features the pressed letter 'W' in triplicate on the octagonal base. Rarity: According to historical factory knowledge, production did not proceed flawlessly, as a result of which the goblet was never officially introduced into regular trade. The edition produced at the time was primarily distributed to schoolchildren in Leerdam and the surrounding area, making it a highly beloved and sought-after collector's item today among enthusiasts of Orange vases. This rare Wilhelmina jubilee glass was never in production. Sources: National Glass Museum, The Book *Het Hele Oeuvre Van A.D. Copier* This is the iconic Wilhelmina cup, designed by A.D. Copier for Glasfabriek Leerdam in 1938. The design reflects the refined glass art and craftsmanship for which Leerdam is known, with a timeless elegance characteristic of early twentieth-century Dutch design. The cup is crafted from high-quality orange glass, a color inextricably linked to the Dutch royal family. The object features a subtly ribbed bowl resting on a sturdy, faceted base, in which the letter 'W' is prominently displayed in relief. This specific design and choice of color make it a recognizable and collectible piece from Dutch glass history. The glass is in excellent condition, with the original luster and clarity of the material fully preserved. The construction is structurally intact and shows the careful preservation over the years. This historic glass object makes a valuable addition to a collection of Dutch design or serves as a striking decorative accent in a classic or eclectic interior. The object comes into its own particularly well in a display cabinet or on a sideboard, where the light can accentuate the warm orange tint. When shipped, the item is carefully packed to prevent damage. I ship in recycled and eco-friendly boxes.
