Laveno ceramics represent one of Italy's most important and long-standing ceramic traditions, with a history rooted in the 19th century. The history of Laveno ceramics began in 1856 with the founding of the Società Ceramica Italiana (SCI) in Laveno-Mombello, in the province of Varese. Its geographical location, with the availability of raw materials and proximity to Lake Maggiore, fostered the development of this industry. Over the years, SCI experienced periods of great development, distinguishing itself through the quality and innovation of its productions. Laveno ceramics encompassed various types of productions, from common everyday ceramics to art objects. SCI collaborated with important artists and designers, such as Guido Andlovitz, Antonia Campi, and Angelo Biancini, who helped define the style of Laveno ceramics. Its productions are distinguished by a variety of styles, ranging from Art Nouveau (Liberty) to Art Deco (Déco), from modern design to more traditional productions. Laveno ceramics are known for the production of tableware, decorative objects, sculptures, and artistic ceramics.
