Magnificent vintage serving tray with an oval silhouette evoking a boat hull, entirely made of steam-bent wood ("bentwood" technique): thin stacked and curved light wood strips, assembled with remarkable craftsmanship. Very specific ergonomic handles, nothing similar seen.
The interior bottom is covered with a fine and regular grain veneer in warm brown tones, while the two ergonomic handles offer a beautiful original golden patina with that flamed grain so characteristic of the wood species. Each handle features an ergonomic double-oval cutout, designed for comfortably sliding fingers into — a design detail that is both functional and aesthetic.
A small detail that speaks to the quality of manufacturing: discreet metal rivets reinforce the junction between the bent body and the handles, visible and accepted as a finishing element.
A piece probably Scandinavian or Thonet-inspired, dating from the mid-20th century (to be confirmed), with no visible manufacturer's mark.
