Sublime hand-embossed leather serving tray, made by Tuareg artisan men from Niger. Its octagonal shape, its handles crafted in continuity with the edge, and the richness of its decoration make it an uncommon piece — I haven't found any other with this silhouette and these handles on the market.
The decoration, entirely hand-tooled on the leather, combines several traditional motifs: a four-pointed cross evoking the famous Agadez cross, stylized cowries, a dense geometric grid, as well as twisted rope friezes and chevron patterns that run all along the beveled edge.
Traditional construction: leather stretched and embossed over a rigid core, handles shaped in continuity with the tray.
Excellent state of preservation. Shiny, supple leather, clear and legible embossing. No cracks, no missing parts.
