The oversized shallow glass shade features a beautiful white opaline swirl / feather pattern, created during the hand-working of the glass. Depending on the light and viewing angle, the pattern changes from subtle milky white to a much more pronounced sculptural, almost flower-like design. The glass is finished with a contrasting black glass rim and suspended from three fine steel wires, giving the lamp a particularly elegant and lightweight appearance despite its impressive size. The original black ceiling canopy and central fitting with two light sockets are included. The shade still retains its original Italian sticker:“Apparenti difetti del vetro sono dovuti alla lavorazione artistica eseguita a mano dal maestro vetraio.”This indicates that variations and apparent imperfections in the glass are the result of the artistic hand-working by the master glassmaker — a characteristic associated with handmade Italian/Murano glass. Similar period pieces carrying this wording are documented as Italian Murano glass lighting.DetailsOrigin: ItalyPeriod: circa 1970/80'sMaterial: hand-worked / blown glass, metal & steelColour: opaline white / translucent white & blackDiameter: approx. 63–64 cmLight sources: 2Original ceiling canopy includedOriginal Italian handmade-glass sticker presentVintage condition with minor age-related traces; please see photographsA striking piece of Italian Space Age / Post Modernist lighting and particularly decorative because of its unusually large diameter and sculptural glass pattern.Ref. 26203
