An original chrome 'Dandelion' / Sputnik chandelier, designed by the Italian architect and designer Gaetano Sciolari (1927-1994) in the 1970s. This is the highly sought-after large model with a 52 cm diameter and 11 light points. An iconic and rare Space Age statement piece.
The attached photos show the chandelier in an authentic interior setting and on the workbench, providing an honest and transparent view of the chrome finish, the construction, and the atmospheric light emission.
Since the original, 50-year-old internal wiring of these vintage fixtures is typically degraded and lacks proper grounding, this chandelier has been completely disassembled (separated into the upper and lower spheres) and technically rebuilt from scratch. Only premium, modern components have been utilized.
During this intensive overhaul, the following technical upgrades were performed:
• Completely rewired and equipped with an earth wire in strict
compliance with current European safety standards. The wiring
entering the arms is additionally protected with heat-resistant
insulation sleeves to prevent mechanical wear against the metal
edges.
• The hazardous mess of old wiring and deteriorated vintage tape
has been replaced by a clean, safe circuit using genuine,
transparent Wago connectors in both the top and bottom spheres
(see restoration photos).
• The new lamp sockets have been secured using specialized
professional thread-locking glue. This permanently prevents the
sockets from spinning when changing a bulb, eliminating the risk
of internal cable twisting and wire breakage.
• Fitted with a high-quality 'Tweed Black Onyx' fabric cord featuring a
subtle glitter, combined with a matching chrome hanging chain of
nearly 2 meters. Highly suitable for high ceilings.
• The original chrome ceiling canopy comes pre-wired with modern
connector blocks and proper earthing for immediate installation.
The chandelier comes fully complete with 11 dimmable 28W halogen bulbs (E14). Halogen provides an excellent color rendering index (CRI 100) and that characteristic, brilliant warm glow that perfectly complements this vintage design. The bulbs dim smoothly and beautifully.
• The chrome is in very neat, highly glossy vintage condition. The
chrome has been deeply cleaned and polished. Naturally, there are
minor, normal signs of aging and light patina consistent with an
original 1970s piece.
• One small metal sprig/branch is missing at the very top. Due to the
dense, complex structure and the sheer volume of the branching
arms, this is completely invisible once the lamp is hanging.
• The technical state is 100% in absolute mint condition, thoroughly
tested and safe for future use.
