Product description
A beautiful piece from Digoin's decorative production, this large cachepot with two handles testifies to the renewal of forms and designs that accompanied French ceramics in the mid-20th century. Made of glazed terracotta, it features a generous and balanced, almost cylindrical shape, slightly rounded at its base and framed by two side handles. Its deep brown enamel serves as a background for a particularly graphic design, composed of a multitude of stylized white motifs punctuated with touches of yellow and green. The application of the glazes creates small variations in texture and density, particularly in the slightly speckled white areas, giving the design an almost textile-like presence. This contrast between the warm brown of the glaze and the light enamels perfectly matches the taste of the 1950s-1960s for abstract designs or those freely inspired by the plant world. Digoin holds an important place in the history of French ceramics. The Burgundian city became a major production center from the 19th century onwards, before experiencing a remarkable diversification of its creations in the 20th century. Alongside tableware production, decorative pieces emerged, with forms and glazes fully integrated into their era. The cachepot bears the Digoin stamp molded into the clay on its base, confirming its origin. With approximately 17 cm in height and 18 cm in diameter at the opening, its proportions give it a particularly interesting presence. Some traces of use and small marks of time are visible, particularly on the glaze and at the rim, without detracting from the overall balance of this beautiful antique piece. They are precisely shown in the photographs. A particularly successful Digoin ceramic piece, representative of this period when French manufacturers skillfully introduced simple forms, colorful glazes, and modern graphics into post-war interiors. Additional details: - Brand: Digoin - Style: Graphique - Material: terre cuite - Material: émail - Colour: brun - Period: 1950s-1960s
