Large tramp art box with lid and brass handle, folk art object made from layered pieces of gold, partly gold colored, from the late first half of the 20th century. Beautiful form of folk art, anyone could make a tramp art object with what they had at hand, hence very rare to find 2 identical pieces, these unique items therefore have a high collector's value and are highly sought after. Tramp art is a style of woodworking that emerged in America in the second half of the 19th century. Very popular between 1870 and 1940. Some of the defining characteristics of tramp art include chip or notch carving, reclaiming cheap or available wood such as that from cigar boxes and shipping crates, using simple tools such as pocket knives, and layering materials into geometric shapes using glue or nails. This item is in excellent condition, completely complete, usually they are damaged somewhere, this one has stood the test of time very well, check the photos for more details!
