Tramp art is a style of woodworking that emerged in America in the second half of the 19th century. Very popular between 1870 and 1940. Some of the defining characteristics of tramp art include chip or notch carving, reclaiming cheap or available wood such as that from cigar boxes and shipping crates, using simple tools such as pocket knives, and layering materials into geometric shapes using glue or nails.
