An impressive ensemble of eight handmade textile dolls (muñecas), presented in a single wooden display box. These dolls are crafted according to the traditions of the Chancay culture of Peru (ca. 1000–1470 AD).
Symbolism and Meaning:
Contrary to popular belief, these dolls have a very positive and loving meaning. They have nothing to do with voodoo or negative rituals. In the Chancay culture, they were placed in graves, for example, as "companions" or "protectors" to keep them company and support them in the afterlife. They radiate peace and caring and are a tribute.
Features of the set:
Each doll is approximately 15 cm tall and unique in design. They are composed of authentic, hand-woven antique textiles. The set showcases a beautiful variety of pre-Columbian weaving techniques, use of color (such as natural indigo and earth tones), and traditional costumes.
