This monumental accent lamp is based on an extremely expressive fat lava floor vase by Carstens Tönnieshof from the 1970s. Stylistically clearly belonging to Brutalism, the piece impresses with its powerful, bulbous form and an extremely coarse-grained, thickly applied glaze in vibrant orange.
A characteristic feature is the stamped pattern, which deliberately "flows" slightly during the firing process. This effect was no accident, but rather a consciously employed design element of the time: raw, tactile, uncompromising. The glaze has a lava-like appearance and lends the vase a strong, three-dimensional depth. The ceramic is exceptionally heavy and solid – a true statement piece of West German pottery.
Construction & Technology
The lamp was constructed to a high standard and with great stability. No holes were drilled into the collector's item. Thanks to a custom-made plug-in solution, the vase stopper and socket sit securely on the vase.
– The design fully respects the original ceramic.
– The base is embossed with the manufacturer's mark.
– Fabric cable, discreetly routed directly into the socket from the back.
Due to its size and weight, the lamp stands very securely and is ideally suited as a dominant accent lamp for spacious rooms, lofts, or architecturally striking interiors.
