Product description
Large Black Glass Bonbonnière, “Mimosa” Series – Boom, Belgium Art Deco · Hyalith glass · Excellent condition This elegant bonbonnière is part of the “Mimosa” series, attributed by experts to the Boom glassworks (Verrerie de Rupel, Boom, Belgium), as referenced in the book Verre et Noir by É. and L. Ragaert. The shape of this piece is also documented in the publication Booms Glas (model Nr. 8), confirming its origin and design lineage. Made from deep black hyalith glass, the bonbonnière features a sleek, architectural form with a domed lid and stepped knob. The design is highlighted by concentric gilded lines—a hallmark of the Art Deco style, emphasizing symmetry, geometry, and refined minimalism. The piece remains in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, and retains most of its gilded decoration with only minor, time-appropriate wear. Its generous size (approx. 20 cm in diameter) enhances its presence as a decorative or functional object. Still bearing the original “Mimosa” label, this bonbonnière is a rare and collectible example of Belgian Art Deco glass, combining bold design with enduring craftsmanship. De Rupel was renowned for producing decorative glassware with sophisticated color palettes and luxurious metallic accents, making this piece a beautiful example of the era’s aesthetic. A timeless collector’s item, it showcases the Belgian glassworks’ dedication to artistry and quality. De Rupel glassworks, established in 1925 in Boom, Belgium—a town nestled between Brussels and Antwerp—initially specialized in producing mold-blown beer glasses, including the iconic Duvel glass. In 1935, the company appointed Paul Heller as chief designer, who introduced decorative glassware to their repertoire. By 1936, De Rupel was renowned for its distinctive black vases adorned with hand-painted floral and architectural motifs. The factory also produced various glassware lines, such as Artver, Artlux, Boom, and Arlecchino, encompassing vases, stemware, lampshades, and vanity sets. Despite their success, De Rupel ceased operations in 1971. Will be well packaged and protected
