Magnificent large cream-glazed earthenware crocodile from the Sarreguemines factory, dating from the 1930s in the Art Deco style. Depicted reclining at the edge of a grassy terrace. Its cream glaze displays a fine network of natural cracks, typical of the factory's earlier pieces, while the base bears a Sarreguemines stamp, difficult to read due to its faint impression during production. This large decorative piece is a fine example of French animal figurines from the interwar period and would be equally at home in an Art Deco or contemporary interior.
43cm long, 15cm wide at its widest point, and 12cm high at its highest point. In very good overall condition, without chips or cracks, with fine natural crazing of the glaze and a light patina from use on the base, the front of the tail, and its tip. Approximately 1.5kg.
