A large antique dish whose elegance lies entirely in the combination of ivory earthenware and a deep, particularly luminous cobalt blue. The broadly stylized floral design unfurls in two opposing compositions on the rim of the dish. The boldly outlined flowers are accompanied by foliage and connected by a thin blue line that follows the curve of the piece. A balanced, almost graphic composition, which lends this antique dish astonishing modernity. Made in the first half of the 20th century, between the 1920s and 1940s, it testifies to this period when table decorations progressively moved away from very naturalistic floral compositions to adopt bolder and more decorative patterns. Its generous diameter of approximately 30 cm gives it a real presence. It will naturally find its place on a table for serving, but lends itself equally well to decorative use. On an antique display cabinet, placed on a console table, or integrated into a wall composition of earthenware pieces, its intense blue immediately becomes the focal point.
